What Pause Collects
Pause collects only what you choose to enter directly:
- Health & symptom data — daily logs, severity ratings, period tracking, mood, energy
- Personal profile — first name, birth year, menopause stage, treatment information
- Work profile — work pattern and role type, used to contextualise your daily guidance
- Lifestyle milestones — treatments, diet changes, or other events you choose to log
- Calendar events — meetings you add within the app, and, if you choose to connect your Apple Calendar, upcoming event titles and dates read from it (with your permission) for daily readiness guidance
- AI API key — if you use AI Insights, your API key is stored locally on your device only
Where Your Data Lives
All data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. Pause has no backend servers, no cloud database, and no account system.
Apple HealthKit
With your permission, Pause can read data from Apple Health — sleep, heart rate, blood pressure, weight, and menstrual cycle data — to enrich your symptom patterns and daily readiness score.
Pause may also write your logged data back to Apple Health. HealthKit data is governed by Apple's privacy framework and is never used for advertising or shared outside the app.
AI Insights (Optional)
Pause offers three ways to use AI-powered insights, all optional:
Built-in AI ($1.99/month subscription)
Your symptom summary — including symptom types, severity ratings, any notes you've written, cycle dates, health metrics, and connected calendar event names — is sent through our proxy server to Anthropic's Claude to generate and personalise your insights (including choosing which insights matter most today and refining how they're worded). Your name and email are never included; the only identifier sent is a temporary rate-limiting token. Notes are sent as you wrote them, so avoid including anything in a note you wouldn't want processed. Data is not stored or logged by the proxy. Anthropic's privacy policy applies to the processing of prompts.
Apple Intelligence
Processing happens entirely on your device using Apple's on-device models. No data leaves your device. Available on supported devices with iOS 26 or later.
Your own API key
The same symptom summary is sent directly from your device to your chosen provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google) using the key you supply. Your key is stored locally only.
On-device analysis
Some analysis always stays on your device regardless of provider — for example, structure extracted from your notes to improve trigger detection is computed with Apple's on-device models only and never transmitted.
Third-party provider privacy policies:
All AI features are entirely optional. Pause is fully functional without them.
Notifications
Pause uses local notifications only. Notifications are scheduled entirely on your device based on your logged data. No notification data is sent to any external server.
What Pause Does Not Do
- Collect data on our servers
- Sell your data
- Use your data for advertising
- Share your data with third parties
- Use tracking or analytics SDKs
- Require an account or login
Data Retention & Deletion
Your logs, profile, and tracked data remain on your device until you choose to remove them. You can delete everything at any time using “Reset all data” in Settings, which permanently erases your logs and profile from the device.
Any API key you enter for your own AI provider is stored in your device’s Keychain and can be cleared in Settings.
When AI features are enabled, the data sent to your chosen AI provider (or, for built-in AI, through the proxy to Anthropic) is processed according to that provider’s own privacy policy. Pause does not retain this data on any server.
Children
Pause is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
